Monday 12th April is an exciting date for many, marking the reopening of outside dining and drinking in England. It offers the tantalising prospect of a European-style café culture flourishing on our local high streets. But how are the hospitality venues preparing for this change? Let's explore.
Creating A Café Culture
England is taking an enthusiastic step towards embracing the charm and allure of outdoor dining. However, with only 38% of hospitality venues across Britain having access to outside space, the transformation is not without challenges.
Many venues, eager to welcome back patrons and enjoy the open-air experience, have been required to apply for a pavement license. This new scenario opens the door for vibrant local scenes reminiscent of bustling European café squares.
According to data from 10 councils in the largest metropolitan areas in England, a total of 840 pavement licensing applications have been approved. This illustrates the commitment of local businesses to adapt and create appealing outdoor spaces for diners and drinkers.
These licenses enable establishments to use pavements and outdoor areas for serving food and beverages, allowing more people to experience the joy of alfresco dining.
Support Local Hospitality
Now, more than ever, it's crucial to get out on our local high streets and support our favourite restaurants, pubs, and cafés. Whether it's enjoying a sunny lunch or a cool evening drink, we can all play a part in revitalising our local hospitality venues.
12th April symbolises a fresh chapter for England's dining scene, one filled with the promise of laughter, clinking glasses, and the delectable aroma of outdoor feasts. Let's embrace the opportunity and make the most of what our local areas have to offer.
